Verified Reviewer |Poor service dishonest and rude staff
Terrible service here and misinformation given. Management mainly The manager Brad needs to do a better job training his staff.
I drove 30 minutes to this location to return Vuori because they are listed as the retailer. It was given as a gift so I dont know where they were purchased but this is the nearest retailer to me. When I called I was told over the phone that I could bring the clothing back in for credit. I even said I didnt have a receipt but knew the brand was carried here.
The young lady told me specifically that it was fine but could not get cash back. I was fine with that. Fast forward I go all the way down there and was told by an employee and a manager that wasnt the case. People call to save time and gas and these incompetent and poorly trained management and store staff have zero knowledge of their own policies.
Dont waste your time coming here go to Bass Pro Shops. Better service prices and some integrity.
Preferred solution: Exchange my products and a gas card!

Verified ReviewerDisgruntled employee made an unwarranted comment on my account that has followed me two years later and in another state!
Emails are from July 14, 2022 and they STILL have not done anything.

Hello!
I recently became an REI member and made several purchases at the store in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Ive been shopping at that location for a few years now, and am thrilled with my decision to finally purchase the lifetime membership.
While I was there, I noticed that the price for a bicycle tune-up was around $75 - less than what Ive paid in the past - so I decided to drop off my Trek Fx 2 hybrid for a tune-up and whatever else it needed. I dropped my bike off on July 7th and was advised that a $27 additional charge fee would be added if it was determined that anything above and beyond would be necessary. No problem.
On 7/12, the promised-by date to pick my bike up, I got a call, which I missed, and the message stated that my back wheel had cracks where the spokes met and needed to be replaced. On 7/13 I went in to look at the cracks they were talking about and agreed to have the extra repair for around $100 more.
On the way home, I thought to call the service department and check with Derek whether the new wheel would say Bontrager, as the old one does and like the front wheel does.
I know that Bontrager is a brand that goes hand-in-hand with Trek and I wasnt sure if REI would be able to order a Bontrager wheel. Sure enough, Derek said that the new wheel would not say Bontrager; it would just be a plain wheel, at which point I said, ok, dont change the wheel, I will just come in to pick up the bike with the regular tune-up.
When I got back to the store (my second trip) I found that nothing at all was done to my bike. The tune-up wasnt done, it wasnt cleaned, and in fact, the brake pads had been taken off, so it wasnt even rideable at that point. When I asked them to put the brake pads back on the associate said that he could not because, with the wheel being a safety issue, he would not be able to test ride it.
Okay, then.
That was really unexpected. They kept my bike for almost a week and I picked it up in worse shape than when I dropped it off.
I was not charged anything and my service was canceled by customer request.
I left with my bike and took it a mile down the road to the Trek store, where I noticed that REI had replaced the cassette and failed to charge me for it.
At this point, I was pretty angry over the wasted time and the way I was treated when I asked them to put the brake pads back on - not to mention the fact that no one thought it was worth it to mention that the new back wheel wouldnt match the front wheel - and I didnt want to keep a free cassette from REI. I asked the Trek associate to remove it so I could bring it back to REI, and he did.
Now on my THIRD trip to REI to bring back the cassette, I made it a point to tell Derek that he should have told me that it would just be a plain wheel that he was ordering. But the way they handled the situation was to take no accountability whatsoever and act like it was unreasonable of me to think that a mismatched wheel would be something that Id want to know about upfront.
I dont feel like that is unreasonable, but another associate there said something like I disagree. Then he went to get his manager.
At this point, I was actually glad that the manager was being brought in because I took the cassette out of my bag and informed them that Id come there to return it, since I hadnt been charged for it, and didnt want it. I told the manager my complaint over the wheel (and again, mostly the time that was wasted when my bike should have been fixed) and he clearly didnt care. The other guy, the one that left earlier to get the manager, said he would like me not to come back to the store again.
Obviously, Im upset about the way I was treated.
As I mentioned, Im a big fan of REI, and I JUST became a member. I certainly dont want to be banned from the only REI around me because we could not agree to respectfully disagree about the importance of brand-name wheels on expensive bikes. I am writing to ensure that my membership is in good standing, and again say that this unfortunate instance aside, it would be my pleasure to keep shopping at REI King of Prussia. From: REI

Verified Reviewer |Keen Cicadia have a defective design flaw
I purchased a pair of Keen Cicadia Waterproof Hiking Shoes in late fall 2023. I wore the shoes three, perhaps four times when the heel lock was torn away from the shoe, rendering the shoes useless.
This is due to a design flaw with the anchor eyelet, not due to normal wear and tear.
I reached out to both REI and Keen, and neither company will step up to replace these defective shoes. I will never buy another pair of Keen shoes and I will never buy anything again from REI.
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Buyer beware as neither REI nor Keen stands behind their product.

Verified Reviewer |Poor customer service. Poor selling practices. Poor quality item
Disappointed to say the least. 20+ year REI club member and will never shop here again.
Always though REI sold quality product and offered great customer service however my most recent experience has left me disillusioned. Recently purchased a pair of Keen sandals from what I thought was a closeout or discontinued display. They looked fine and did not appear to have any damage of any kind. Tried them on and they seemed to fit fine.
Took them home wore them for about 20 minutes and they turned out to be the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever owned. Attempted to return them to the store the following day and was informed by the cashier and the manager that they were "Garage Sale Items" and were unreturnable. I politely protested and questioned how was I supposed to know they were unreturnable. Neither the item tag, the receipt, or any signage in the area displayed the return status of this item.
In fact when question about the location of the signage stating that the "Garage Sale items were not returnable the manager just said that "its over there somewhere". but wasn't exactly sure where that was. The store manage insisted that they would not offer a refund under any circumstances so told her I have no use for the sandals and that I would never attempt to sell or give them to anyone knowing the issues with them so would she be kind enough to dispose of them for me. Left the shoes on her counter and left the store.
Immediately contacted corporate customer service and after 43 minutes and speaking with 3 supervisors and a 1000 apologies the best resolution they could come up with was to offer me a $25 gift card for the $66.83 defective shoes they sold me. Really not a sincere and adequate resolution.
No problem with the no return policy on the "garage sale" items however if you truly pride your reputation on exceptional customer experience, you really should have the items marked as unreturnable and the cashier should acknowledge clearly that the purchase is a "garage sale" purchase that is not refundable. REI you made your problem my problem and were indifferent of my 20+ years of loyalty.
My loyalty was worth less than $66.83 and the bitterness will remain indefinitely. Buyer Beware-Hope this saves someone else the inconvenience and the time.

Verified Reviewer |Reward points expire
Had a REI dividend of $33.80 from purchases. Hadn't been to a REI store for a couple of years.
My wife wanted to look for shoes at one the other day. Looked in my wallet and saw the member card with the dividend on it and noticed that the dividend had expired.
I ask the rep why theF dividends expired and he replied that he was not sure. At the front desk they told me I was SOL!Guess they roll all of the unclaimed dividends into the executive bonuses.

Verified ReviewerPoor Customer Service
I ordered a pair of HOKA sneakers from REI - have not used this company before. I signed up for the rewards co-op membership.
I returned the sneakers for a refund and found out I will be charged $4.99 for the return and not be refunded for between 4 - 5 weeks.
So I will have tied up $144.00 for that long.
I tried to call the customer service co-op for several days with a wait time of 20 plus minutes each call.
I asked for a refund from the co-op fee of $20.00 and was told it was a non-refundable item. I will never order from this company again.
The items are overpriced and return policy is very poor.
I will order directly from the HOKA .com directly. Faster service and free returns!

Phone Insurance
REI sent me advertising if I paid my phone bill each month with my REI card I would have phone insurance. THIS IS A SCAM AND DON'T FALL FOR IT !!!!!
I've been paying my phone bill through REI for over 2 years. Then I did have damage to my phone while exploring the wilderness. For 3 months now I have been sending the same documents over and over again to prove, I guess, I had a phone. Now they want a damage estimate for a broken phone that was turned in to the phone company.
I was given a credit of $5 for my broken phone and that's all the damage estimate I have.
Which isn't good enough for them. THIS IS A SCAM AND DON'T FALL FOR IT !!!!
Preferred solution: Full refund

I was shopping in the Manhattan Beach REI Garage sale store. I was having trouble breathing because i had my mask on for a while.
I pulled it down below my nose for less than 5 min when an employee asked me to pull it up. I explained to him how i was feeling. He responded with store policy mandates and then got the manager. The manager told me it i didnt pull my mask up over my nose i would have to leave the store.
I handed all the itmes over to the manager and left.
I felt demoralized and shamed by REI. This shouldnt happen.

September 8, 2020, paid the remaining balance of my loan of $4,000.00 for my pop-up camper. Rep told me the title would come in 3 weeks.
It is now 10/27/20. I talked to 3 different reps and they told me they would transfer me to Marla the supervisor of the title dept. One rep hung up on me. The other rep transferred me into Marlas phone and when I left a message for a call back, it NEVER happened.
The rep said she would leave a email message for Marla. Oh, I did talk to a fourth rep and they said it was on its way. That was Wednesday and I am still waiting. I will never use that bank again.
I do not know what else to do. I am selling my pop-up and have a buyer.
I so need the title. I cant sell without a title.

Um... WTF?!?
I bought a Cannondale Bad Boy 1 from REI just yesterday at their NE Expressway location in Atlanta. Thus far I've found the hold times for their phone system to amount to a part time job.
Most people who can afford their products simply don't have time for that. But, I suppose it's better than when they forget to take their system off the nighttime voice message that gives you an inordinately long spiel and then promptly hangs up on you, during business hours. So, I was assured that their mechanics had "put a wrench on it" to insure that everything was properly assembled and tuned before I picked up my new bike. This morning I was excited to head out for my first ride.
As soon as I descended my first hill, when I went to apply the rear brakes, the disc separated from its mount on the rear hub and was then of course completely inoperative.
Additionally, no one seems to have much if any knowledge of some of the more unusual components on the bike. For example, how do you charge the Supernova battery that supplies power to the light built into the front fork? One would think that the bike purchase would include the requisite USB charger, but it was not included. I'm not sure if Cannondale does not include one, or REI dropped the ball.
Either way, I'm amazed that an obviously mandatory accessory would not be included with the purchase of a bike that retails for roughly $1,800. I mean, seriously? The last time I bought a cheapo set of Bluetooth earbuds, they came with the USB charger needed. It appears they don't even publish a model specific owners manual.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with REI or Cannondale? They're both reputable companies that offer high quality products, but so far my experience has been decidedly subpar.

REI shared email address with spammer
I am getting emails for the benefit of REI, such as "REI Charging Backpack Holiday anti theft backpack" When I bought two clothing items at REI, I gave my email address but DID NOT GIVE PERMISSION FOR THIRD PARTIES TO SOLICIT ME. It is frustrating to get emails not signed by the sender.
